PDX Strong is a new vlog series hosted by Vanessa Sturgeon featuring the Leaders Among Us. It is an avenue for positive dialogue around relevant topics, inclusive discussions, and impactful conversations with business and citizen leaders. Throughout her career, Sturgeon has had the honor of serving on many boards and committees, and volunteering with change makers in the city of Portland. In that role, she knows that too often business, community, and the silent leaders who serve our City don’t feel their ideas and solutions are being heard. PDX Strong gives those leaders an opportunity to have solution driven conversations and address real time topics that are relevant in Portland right now.
Check out the vlog at www.pdxstrong.com/ and please let us know if you have a leader you would like to see interviewed.
The Audubon Society of Portland has organized Lights Out Portland for September 30, 2016 to save energy, save lives and see stars. Studies show in the United States, up to 1 billion birds die every year from colliding into a building window. Most birds migrate at night and rely on natural light from the sky, but city lights can interfere and deceive their path. By reducing our lighting, we can minimize risk and provide a safe route.
Portland will be joining 21 other cities to turn off unnecessary light to our buildings. To do our part, TMT has asked tenants of Park Avenue West and Fox Tower to pull down their blinds at dusk on the 30th. Our building engineers will be turning off our roof & non-emergency lights as well.
Please join us on September 30th and shut it down for Lights Out Portland!
The 5th annual Brews for New Avenues fundraising event was on August 26th. They featured a live and silent auction for the rarest bears in this region and the most popular beers on tap for participants to enjoy. In 2015, they had over 700 attendees and raised $58,000! This year, tickets sold out and raised $150,000!
100% of the proceeds from Brews goes directly to New Avenues for Youth, a non-profit organization that provides programs & services to prevent youth homelessness in our Portland community.
Volunteering in our local community is important to TMT, and Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East is an amazing organization that we always enjoy working with. For 35 years they have provided stability and housing to hard-working, low-income families who need it the most. Last Friday the TMT team put on our hard hats, braved the heat, and headed out to work on homes at Helensview, a new Habitat development in the Cully neighborhood of NE Portland. Once completed, Helensview will house 21 hard-working, local families and approximately 60 children. We had a great day painting, digging, and bonding with other volunteers in our community.
The Avenues of Art event auction is coming up on June 25th in Director Park. Below is a map of a self-guided walking tour through Downtown Portland that will give you the opportunity to preview the panels that will be up for auction. All proceeds from the auction go to support New Avenues for Youth, a local non-profit that helps empower youth to exit street life. The stars indicate where you can stop off and see some of this amazing artwork on display.
TMT is committed to being active in our local community and one of the organizations we support annually is Habitat for Humanity. The TMT team helped by putting the finishing touches on a few homes at Trillium Court in Southwest Portland. It was great opportunity to get out of the office, strap on our tool belts, and work with other community members to build homes for some deserving families.
Avenues of Art returns this year with the Billions and Billions of People auction in Director Park on June 25th from 5:00 -8:00 pm. Up for auction at the event are the colorful, hand-painted panels that made up the Billions and Billions of People public art installation that once surrounded the Park Avenue West construction site.
Commissioned by President & CEO of TMT Development, Vanessa Sturgeon in 2011 to help beautify the site, these panels were painted by local artists and homeless youth served by New Avenues for Youth. Sturgeon currently sits on the Board of Directors for New Avenues for Youth, a non-profit that her grandfather, Tom Moyer, helped found. The organization helps to empower homeless youth to exit street life. TMT Development is proud to have provided real life, paid job training for this project and continues to support the mission of New Avenues for Youth.
The event is open to the public and all proceeds go to support New Avenues for Youth. To purchase VIP tickets for the event, click here.
Feast Portland is a big draw to our city, especially Downtown. Chefs from all over the country gather here in September for the Pacific Northwest’s premier food festival that attracts over 10,000 people. One of Feast Portland’s key missions is to reduce hunger in Oregon and all over the country by donating net proceeds to worthy charities. It was recently announced that $62,143 was donated in 2014 to the charitable partners Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign and Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon!
TMT Development is a proud sponsor of Feast Portland and shares its commitment to ending hunger in Oregon.
TMT was excited to participate in the Adopt-A-Family program again this holiday season. Through generous donations from our employees, we were able to provide holiday gifts for a young mother and her three children. Giving back to the community is at the heart of what we do here at TMT, and we were honored to help bring joy to this family during the holidays!
